Campfire Pies

Campfire PieThere’s nothing like sitting around the campfire, relaxing, while you catch up with friends and reconnect with your family.   Watching the flames, talking, and cooking your favorite campfire foods over the hot coals is a great way to spend an evening.  Campfire Pies: This is one of my favorite foods to prepare over the coals. You can choose the filling, anything from pizza toppings to fruit pie fillings.  I chose homemade apple pie filling I canned using apples from my uncle’s orchard.

What you will need to make Campfire Pies:

Bread and Pie Filling for Campfire Pies

Campfire with wood burned to glowing embers (perfect for cooking)

2 pieces of bread for each pie you want to make

Pie filling, homemade or store-bought, flavor of your choice (about 1/2 cup for each pie)

Spreadable butter

Pie Iron or Double Pie Iron for campfire

Instructions for Campfire Pies:

Making Campfire PiesButter one side of each piece of bread. Place one piece butter side down on one side of the pie iron. Spoon a small amount (about 1/2 cup) of pie filling in the center of the bread. Place the other slice of bread, butter side up on top of the pie filling.

Campfire Pie - Pie Iron in Hot CoalsClose the pie iron. Place the pie iron in the campfire for about 3-5 minutes per side or until golden brown. Take your pie out of the pie iron, allow to cool about 5 minutes.  Enjoy!

7 Ways to Share a Bowl of Soup

I love the kind of days you can light a fire in the fireplace or have a bonfire and put on a big pot of soup to simmer and enjoy all day long. It brings about memories of gatherings we had when I was a child, when we all gathered together to share a bowl of soup.

  • Mango Fruit Leather
Mango fruit leather has turned out to be one of my kids' favorites. The sugar is totally optional, but it makes it much sweeter and cuts the tartness. The post Mango Fruit Leather appeared first on Mama’s Homestead.

  • Cream Soda Jelly
Cream soda...do you like yours red or amber colored? I chose the amber colored version for my cream soda jelly. I like the flavor better. Plus, I added a teaspoon of vanilla, just for added vanilla goodness. The post Cream Soda Jelly appeared first on Mama’s Homestead.
