Cooking with Kids, Apple Crisp

This is a fun, easy recipe for kids!

We got my daughter a miniature baking set for Christmas a few years ago. She uses it all the time.  I would like to share the  Apple Crisp recipe she makes in the 2 small ramekins she got with the set.  She even got a little set of cooking utensils and a chef set.

What you will need:

2 medium Apples (Granny Smith, Cortland, McIntosh, or any tart baking apple), peeled and cored

3 tablespoons all-purpose flour

3 tablespoons firmly packed brown sugar

2 tablespoons oats

1 tablespoon +1 teaspoon walnuts or hickory nuts, chopped (optional)

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

2 tablespoons butter, softened

2 small  6-Ounce Ramekins

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.

Chop apples into 1/2 inch slices, then cut slices into 1 inch pieces.  Place one apple in each of the ramekins.

To make the topping, place the remaining ingredients in a small bowl and mix together with a fork until crumbly.

Sprinkle the topping mixture over the apples, half in each ramekin.

Bake uncovered for 20 minutes, or until topping is brown and apples are tender.  Remove from oven and let cool.

This delicious Apple Crisp can be served hot or cold.  We like to serve it with ice cream!

This recipe makes enough for her to share one with her sister and one for her to enjoy herself.  She is always so proud of her creations, this was a great gift!

I love the kind of days you can light a fire in the fireplace or have a bonfire and put on a big pot of soup to simmer and enjoy all day long. It brings about memories of gatherings we had when I was a child, when we all gathered together to share a bowl of soup.

Mango fruit leather has turned out to be one of my kids' favorites. The sugar is totally optional, but it makes it much sweeter and cuts the tartness. The post Mango Fruit Leather appeared first on Mama’s Homestead.

Cream soda...do you like yours red or amber colored? I chose the amber colored version for my cream soda jelly. I like the flavor better. Plus, I added a teaspoon of vanilla, just for added vanilla goodness. The post Cream Soda Jelly appeared first on Mama’s Homestead.
