Cooking with Kids, Monkey Bread

Baked Monkey BreadDo you remember making Monkey Bread as a kid?

This is a super easy recipe for kids.   I think this recipe is in every church cookbook I have ever seen.

Monkey Bread makes a great breakfast or brunch treat that kids can help make (with a little help from Mom or Dad).  It bakes in just 45 minutes and when it’s done, you simply turn it over onto a plate and enjoy.

It doesn’t last long around here; my kids love it.

Monkey Bread Ingredients:

3 cans refrigerated biscuits (I use jumbo)

1 cup of granulated pure cane sugar

2 tablespoons cinnamon

1/2 cup butter

1 cup light brown pure cane sugar

Monkey Bread Instructions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.  Grease a 9’x5′ loaf pan.

Pour granulated sugar and cinnamon into a small mixing bowl.  Cut biscuits in quarters (I use my ‘kitchen scissors‘).  Gently roll biscuits in to balls and roll them in the sugar and cinnamon mixture.

Place the balls into the loaf pan and sprinkle half of the remaining sugar and cinnamon over the top of the biscuits.

In a small saucepan, melt butter and mix in brown sugar until combined.

Pour mixture over the biscuits.  This is where I add the other half of the leftover sugar and cinnamon, sprinkle it over the top.  I could just eat them like this!

Bake for 45 minutes at 350 degrees.  Let cool for 10 minutes and turn onto a plate.

Pull and share!  Yum!

I love the kind of days you can light a fire in the fireplace or have a bonfire and put on a big pot of soup to simmer and enjoy all day long. It brings about memories of gatherings we had when I was a child, when we all gathered together to share a bowl of soup.

Mango fruit leather has turned out to be one of my kids' favorites. The sugar is totally optional, but it makes it much sweeter and cuts the tartness. The post Mango Fruit Leather appeared first on Mama’s Homestead.

Cream soda...do you like yours red or amber colored? I chose the amber colored version for my cream soda jelly. I like the flavor better. Plus, I added a teaspoon of vanilla, just for added vanilla goodness. The post Cream Soda Jelly appeared first on Mama’s Homestead.
